Sparta is the commercial center for Randolph and three surrounding counties.

The downtown business district recently underwent a renovation, funded through City of Sparta TIF funds. The old-style buildings along Broadway have been tuckpointed and painted to give the downtown a distinctive look. Two downtown banks undertook major renovations in 1996.

The NorthTown business district is one of Southwestern Illinois' fastest-growing retail centers with a theater, Wal-Mart Supercenter and a number of other retail and restaurant businesses. A new strip mall has been adding many exciting new storefronts to the already bustling area.
